'2020 VISION'
Our buyers dive into the upcoming season’s collections to show you some of their spring/summer highlights, and some of the new brands we'll be showcasing over the next few months... Sitting under the mighty Nepenthes family tree, South2 West8 started as an independent retailer before developing into a clothing brand. Founded in 2002 by Kaname Nagaoka, the brand is largely based around the art of Tenkara fly fishing. Look forward to their sublime pieces, featuring technical details interspersed with tie-dye prints, sheer fabrics and relaxed silhouettes. Developed by Polish artist Filip Pagowski, Comme des Garcon's iconic heart emblem was designed to signify his relationship with the label’s founder, Rei Kawakubo. The diffusion line features staple pieces infused with the characteristic motif. Beginning roughly 100 years after Carhartt was founded, Carhartt WIP updates signature staples with playful, modern details. Remaining true to the workwear origins of the brand, core staples are effortlessly modernized with updated cuts or a slight colour pop. With rich and varied influences, Magic Castles draw references from DIY Punk and playful, dream-like imagery. Rooted in musical sub-cultures, their super-soft shirts feature charismatic prints and stand out details. The militaristic masters WTAPS return with logo sweats and lightweight outerwear, alongside the brand's staple utilitarian jungle shirts and a range of accessories. Placing things where they should be... Story Mfg takes a thoughtful approach to fashion. With a production team based in the Indian forest and a strong emphasis on sustainability, their pieces include a naturally tie-dyed process. All signs point to relaxed silhouettes, distinctive hand-crocheted details and warm naturistic tones. Founded in 1997 by Tokyo-based designer Yasuko Furata, Toga reworks Western styles with Japanese concepts. Studying in both Japan and Paris, Furuta grew up on a diet of vintage rockabilly gear and global fashion education. A new year means more premium, nuanced staples infused with eclectic references, quality construction and directional silhouettes. Take a spin on the brand’s ‘Psychedelic-retrobilly’ prints, classic trousers and distinctive accessories. A cult fave, Tokyo's Wacko Maria possess a rebellious attitude and musically-inclined references. Get loudwith their signature open collar shirts and retro-inspired styles, interjected with animal prints and lucid tones. A seamless blend of Americana, collegiate and militaristic refs, Japan's BEAMS PLUS continues to elevate classic styles with subtle twists and effortless prints. Look out for their clean staple outerwear and bold printed shirts. Made famous by the king of understated style Steve Jobs, the Made in the USA 992 is one of New Balance's best kept secrets. Loved by sneaker fans across the world, this re-release couldn't be more eagerly anticipated. Well, maybe the return of the M1300JP runs it close, but still, 2020 is a big year for NB no matter where your allegiance lies... While the arrival of South2 West8 may steal some of the headlines, 2020 sees Nepenthes stable-mates Needles deliver updates to their burgeoning line of next-level shirting, athletic wear and a whole lot more. Engineered Garments kicks off 2020 in style, with Daiki Suzuki channelling the best of EG seasons past, with function lead designs, military silhouettes and floral prints at the fore. This upcoming season, say more with bold graphic statement tees from brands including Real Bad Man, Powers and Brain Dead. The Newness
